Delivering the first physical IKEA Store in Mexico.
The Scandinavian store located in the eastern part of Mexico City, in Venustiano Carranza neighborhood, is part of the Encuentro Oceania shopping center. The store covers a total area of 23,500 sqm, distributed over three levels, with three integrated shopping center entrances. It is projected to welcome 5.3 million visitors per year.
What was AECOM’s role?
We participated as a strategic member in charge of construction management, focusing on planning, coordination, and project control. Under our supervision, the client was awarded for achieving over 350,000 man-hours without incidents. Our team faced challenges in delivering services during the COVID-19 pandemic and in meeting IKEA’s specific requirements within a tight schedule.
The store will create 300 direct jobs and including local products into the store offer. As part of the sustainability responsibility, the project includes 570 solar panels and rainwater collection and LED light systems and has obtained the LEED Gold certification.
